August 20 août – 0 km – 0 pas!
Aujourd’hui nos bottes étaient au repos obligé : Miguel s’est fait mal à la cheville et on a dû faire une pause. Le moral est bon, on a acheté une chevillère, on fait des massages et on espère pouvoir faire nos deux dernières journées de marche demain et jeudi. Gros-Maman a dû faire du stop pour retourner à Espalion chercher des sous pour le taxi car le guichet bancaire à Estaing était vide! Nous n’étions tout de même pas trop tristes car il faisait un temps froid et pluvieux ce matin. Nous sommes à présent bien installés dans un gite-appartement à Golinhac, les propriétaires sont sympa et le soleil vient de sortir. On espère juste qu’il n’y aura pas de l’aligot pour le souper!!! (l’aligot est une spécialité locale caoutchouteuse faite de purée de pommes de terre et de fromage fondu, servie à presque tous les repas.)
Today our boots took a break: Miguel hurt his ankle yesterday and couldn’t walk this morning. Gros-Maman had to hitchhike back to Espalion to get some money for our taxi because the bank machine in Estaing was empty! We bought an ankle brace at the pharmacy, did some massages and we hope we’ll be able to walk for our two last days, tomorrow and Thursday! We weren’t too sad not to walk today because it was cold and rainy this morning. Now we’ve arrived in Colinhac, we’re in a comfortable little apartment, the owners and agreeable and the sun just came out. We just hope that we won’t get “aligot” for supper!!! (aligot is a local rubbery specialty of mashed potatoes with melted cheese that is served almost every meal.)

My Dad used to make a sort of aligot which he felt was very fancy. Sorry about Miguel’s ankle!

Hello Margaret and Miguel: Sorry to hear about the turned ankle. Let’s hope it settles down so you can finish your heroic exploit. We’ve been following your adventures every day and have been trying to imagine all the nice things you’ve been seeing.
